Aircrafts carrying Indians from South Sudan to reach Delhi by tomorrow

The Indian Air Force aircraft C-17 carrying Indian citizens from war-torn South Sudan landed at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday morning.

Yesterday, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous told the Security Council that the fighting between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and those backing First Vice-President Riek Machar made the movement of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) hard although the Mission was able to conduct limited patrolling.

That clash sparked a larger battle that left almost 300 dead, according to government figures, including 33 civilians.

He has told the UN Security Council the violence does not represent the end of the Transitional Government of National Unity, formed less than three months ago.

The latest bout of violence started on July 7 after a localized gunfight outside Kiir's residence in Juba when he was holding a meeting with Machar.

AFRICOM has reportedly been concerned by the unrest in South Sudan, the world's youngest country, which the Obama administration helped midwife. No one can say how many remained, but when I was there central parts of the city were still empty, and burned-down huts and rusted furniture lined the main thoroughfare.

In the letter, Obama said US forces will remain in the country "until the security situation becomes such that their presence is no longer needed".

This comes two days after President Salva Kiir fired the deputy minister appointed by the SPLM Former Detainees, the third party to the peace agreement, and blocked the travel of Foreign Minister Deng Alor. "South Sudan must respect people's right to freedom of movement, including the right to leave their own country", said Elizabeth Deng, Amnesty International's South Sudan Researcher. "I don't want any more bloodshed in South Sudan", Kiir said. This has led to a significant decrease in the number of new arrivals coming into Uganda over the weekend.

Regardless of the theft, Country Director Joyce Luma noted that the WFP has already provided urgently needed food assistance to thousands of displaced people sheltering at United Nations peacekeeping bases, using stocks from a smaller warehouse in another part of town.
