Archer loses 13th, Rays beaten 4-3 by Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles will send Dylan Bundy to the mound on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun. He missed a second homer by inches in the fifth, settling for an RBI double when his ball hit off the railing atop the left-field fence.

Baltimore scored single runs in four different innings, including home runs by Schoop and Pedro Alvarez, giving the Orioles a major league-high 139 home runs for the season.

Schoop's homer came when he sent an 0-1 pitch from Archer - a 90-mph slider - on a towering ride into the left-field seats at an estimated 407 feet. Schoop is 5 for 13 with two homers in his career against the Rays' opening day starter.

The Orioles' bullpen tossed four scoreless innings, capped by a scoreless ninth by closer Zach Britton, who worked out of a jam and is now a flawless 28 for 28 in save opportunities this season. After yielding a one-out double to Brad Miller, Britton intentionally walked Evan Longoria to bring up Morrison and Souza.

Gallardo fell behind 3-1 after three innings - needing 77 pitches to get that far into the game - but the Rays (34-55) stranded seven base runners in those opening three frames.

After Souza's bases-loaded RBI grounder in the first, Tampa Bay went up 2-0 on Logan Forsythe's run-scoring single in the second.

Jepsen, who spent the first seven years of his career with the Angels, was traded to the Rays before the 2015 season and posted a 2.81 ERA in 46 appearances for Tampa Bay before being shipped to Minnesota for minor-leaguers Chih-Wei Hu and Alexis Tapia at last year's trade deadline.

"I liked the way Arch competed", Manager Kevin Cash said.

NOTES: The Rays made three roster moves coming out of the All-Star break, most notably getting Gold Glove CF Kevin Kiermaier back after missing almost two months with a fractured hand.

Moore has lost to the Orioles twice this season - he has given up eight earned runs in 13 2/3 innings with 15 strikeouts but not much else to show. To make room, the Rays optioned C Hank Conger, RHP Tyler Sturdevant and RHP Ryan Garton to Triple-A Durham.

Orioles RHP Chris Tillman (12-2) will face Rays LHP Matt Moore (5-6) on Saturday night.
