Crane collapses on lanes of Tappan Zee Bridge in NYC suburbs

Video from a news helicopter showed at least one person being taken out of a vehicle and loaded into an ambulance after the crane collapsed around noon Tuesday.

A crane collapsed onto the Tappan Zee Bridge and shut down the span in both directions on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

Construction continues on the Tappan Zee Bridge as seen from Nyack, ... Google Maps shows traffic backed up for miles eastbound and westbound.

Workers are building a new bridge alongside the aging span. It connects Westchester and Rockland Counties. It also links to Interstate 684, Interstate 87 and the Sprain River Parkway on the West side of the Hudson River, which are all popular north-south running roadways for residents of western CT.

The collapsed crane stopped all the traffic on the Tappan Zee Bridge.
