DeRay McKesson, Black Lives Matter Activist, Arrested at Protest

The protests began after the shooting death of Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old African-American man who was shot and killed by police while pinned to the ground on July 5.

During a short morning press conference, Moore said he had frequently worked with the parents of Blane Salamoni, the officer who shot Sterling, both of whom have also served as police officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Riot police in full gear stopped a group of protesters in Baton Rouge late Sunday in their attempt to walk onto Interstate 110 in Baton Rouge, thwarting a protest tactic that social justice activists have increasingly tried in several US cities.

Moore also said that he's recusing himself from any state criminal investigation into the shooting death of Alton Sterling, a black man, at the hands of two white police officers.

A prosecutor says he's considering riot charges against 50 people who staged a rally on Interstate 94 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to protest the police shooting death of Philando Castile. She accused police of acting in an "inflammatory" manner and said an officer had pointed a rifle at her and other protesters before her arrest.

On the video, Mckesson can be heard talking with fellow protesters and describing what he said was provocative police behavior against protesters.

Ms Evans, the mother of a five-year-old son, travelled to Baton Rouge "because she wanted to look her son in the eyes to tell him she fought for his freedom and rights", according to R Alex Haynes, who said on Facebook he had known Ms Evans since childhood.

"I was on the side of the road photographing protestors arguing with police". According to The Daily Mail, Ieshia is originally from NY where she works as a nurse, and came to protest in Baton Rouge. One officer was hit by a projectile and injured in the weekend protests, authorities said.

Even before last week's events in Baton Rouge and Falcon Heights, Minn., BLM activists had planned to protests at this month's Republican National Convention in Cleveland and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Officers in full riot gear stopped a group of protesters in Baton Rouge from walking onto an interstate road route on Sunday evening, thwarting a tactic which activists have attempted in several U.S. cities in order to block traffic. Suddenly, Hollows said, they were confronted by "a wall of riot police". It was taken outside of the Baton Rouge police headquarters. Now it seems Muhlafi's actions have landed him in hot water with the heavily militarized Baton Rouge Police Department (an outfit with a checkered past), which he claims detained him and confiscated materials from his store without a warrant.

Authorities have warned that violence not be tolerated at any protests.
