Left out of the fun (besides a casting nod) was Netflix's Orange is the New Black, which won Uzo Aduba an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series statue past year and an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series award in 2014. It won a record number of Emmys this past fall, with a total of 12 wins.

The best thing about the Emmy nominations is that Laurie Metcalf received three nominations in three different categories. In its debut story, the TV show focused on the trial of O.J. Simpson and the season received rave reviews. They are several years overdue.

Game of Thrones Getting 23 Nominations.

Black-ish star Anthony Anderson and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life actor Lauren Graham revealed the names at a live stream event, which saw HBO's hit Veep lead the comedy nominations with 17 nods.

The cable network is the overall most recognized network, courtesy of its other shows aside from "Game of Thrones".

CBS's prestige drama got nominations for the costume design and writing in its series finale (in addition to well-deserved guest actor nods for Michael J. Fox and Carrie Preston), but no love on the best drama front and no best actress nod for Julianna Margulies.

Cuba Gooding Jr, who played OJ Simpson, and Courtney B Vance, who portrayed Simpson's lawyer Johnnie Cochran, are both up for best lead actor in a limited series.

Kyle Chandler of "Bloodline", Rami Malek of "Mr. Robot", Bob Odenkirk of "Better Call Saul", Matthew Rhys of "The Americans", Liev Schreiber of "Ray Donovan", and Kevin Spacey of "House of Cards" are nominated for best actor in a drama series.

The 68th Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, will air on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 7 to 11 p.m. ET on ABC.

The nods for the series also included best supporting actor and actress nominations for last year's victor Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headley, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams and nods for writers David Benioff and DB Weiss.

And to cap off a pretty much flawless first 18 months in the job, the star now joins fellow British export John Oliver alongside old favourites Fallon and Kimmel in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category.

Many actors and actress who are nominated this year were also in the nomination list last year but the new entry was made by Aziz Ansari, who received nomination for the category of best actor in a comedy series for his outstanding role in the show, Master of None.
