Gymnastics-Dominant Biles wins Olympic trials, qualifies for Rio

Hard to blame her considering the way she so effortlessly reached the top of the podium in 2012, a soaring victory that made her a crossover star.

"I came back and said, 'Yes, this is going to be cake, '" Douglas said.

Morris was fourth in Beijing last summer after a stellar career at Arkansas and finished runner-up to Suhr in Portland this spring.

Sunday afternoon, after finishing a distant last in the 1,500-meter finals, Grunewald said she's not even certain if she will run again this year.

Yet sometime over the last month, the momentum stalled.

Douglas was one of five selected for USA's women's gymnastics team for Rio de Janeiro.

"She's just that much better than everyone else". She figured she would have no trouble handling it when she returned to competition in March 2015. People ask, 'Why are you staying in when you've already done it and got a gold medal?' Gabby has said there's no ulterior motive other than 'I really think I can do it! "I just wanted to go out there and go four-for-four and rock night two. I've got to dive in". This will be Raisman and Douglas' second Olympic games while Biles, Kocian and Hernandez will make their debut.

Felix's run at the 200-400 Olympic double, made possible after Olympics officials honored her request for a chance to run both races, came to an earlier-than-expected end Sunday.

Many of Douglas' peers on the national team, though, are still training with coaches they've been with since turning their first back handspring. She competed in the 2012 Olympics. and then had a third child. The fact she's prospered despite near constant change is a testament to her talent, which seems to thrive when the stakes are raised.

The 16-year-old Hernandez finished in second place in all-around score with 121.150 points.

There will be no confusion when Douglas arrives to work out with the national team in Texas later this week.

"I would be, 'No, I'm fine".

"I lost the joy", she said.

Raisman stepped out on her first floor pass but recovered and scored a 15.050, offering waves in every direction of the arena as she stepped down from the floor. She thought the stage might be a tad too big for her. In some ways, the detractors weren't wrong. After winning her heat in the semifinals during a steady drizzle, she said, "The rain messed up my hair, but that's OK". "I forgot what it means to go out and have fun, and it's catching up".

With the formality of making the US team out of the way Biles heads to Rio where she is expected to challenge for five gold medals.

When Sunday's event had finally wrapped up, an orange foam massage roller tucked under her right arm, Raisman made her exit from the competition area with waves and then an ultra-quick smile before disappearing behind a curtain to wait for the decision. Biles needed to hear Karolyi say the words.

Her vault a day earlier in practice, Daggett said, was the "most ideal piece of gymnastics" he's seen. "I keep my season averages, and 2.29 (meters) is going to put a damper on it".

Sitting seventh after Friday's opening round, no one was under more pressure to deliver on Sunday than Douglas. "Especially this weekend, I really tried to focus on being calm and not getting emotional or nervous when girls begin to pass me in the prelims".

"I learned to not worry about what everyone else is doing", Hightower said. I felt pretty good. "It's just awesome to have teammates be able to push me everyday".
