Muschamp trying to imitate Spurrier's success, not quips

Shawn Elliott returns as South Carolina's offensive line coach; he spent half the season as the Gamecocks' interim coach last fall and Muschamp retained him. The Gamecocks were last in total defense and scoring defense last season and but they're getting a coach who developed three UF defensive players who were drafted by National Football League teams in the first round in the last two seasons, Dante Fowler (Jaguars), Vernon Hargreaves (Bucs) and Keanu Neal (Falcons). They were followed in the predictions by Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Missouri.

Alabama and Tennessee were the overwhelming favorites to win their respective divisions.

SC coach Will Muschamp didn't try to emulate the wisecracking Steve Spurrier at the microphone.

"By in large over the last 11 years, we have exceeded those expectations many times. I didn't go to Florida, but he's at SC now".

Pellage, 19, was fined $1,017 and has a court date August 24, according to Richland County judicial records. The 6-6, 305-pound Brooksville, Fla., native is listed as the backup to Zack Bailey at left guard on the Gamecocks' preseason depth chart.

Take away the 11-2 season of 2012, and it was 17-18 and 10-14.

"I had a big relationship with him (in high school)".

"There's only one Steve Spurrier in life", Muschamp said, "and I'm not it". "And that's very hard for a young man to go through".

"There is no three-year plan, five-year plan", said Muschamp. USC doctors tried to remedy it with injections, but the disc began to impact Moore's strength and ability to move around, eventually requiring the surgery. The latest example is Will Muschamp.

SC offensive lineman Mason Zandi on Thursday described Muschamp, temper and all, as being "at times can be a lot more personable, more interactive with the players", than Spurrier was.

"We make decisions as far as who's going to be the quarterback, who's going to be the running back or who is going to play defensive end, (based on) who helps us win right now". Some of the guys had questions for Sheriff Lott about procedural things, getting pulled over and things like that.

Will Muschamp will be a success at SC.

"Really, it comes back to offense.to make sure we're practicing the right way, whether it's staff, scheme, decision-making, whatever", he said. "He came in and he's going to do everything he can to help the team win".

"We let our fans, friends, family and ourselves down. He gives us that advice that we need". "That is what I tried to impress upon our players - handling things". "We played well on special teams".

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze said he knows he'll be held accountable for the results of an NCAA investigation onto alleged ACT fraud and impremissable benefits. I play for SC, and at the time he coached for Florida, so it wasn't a personal thing. I dreamed of sitting here one day.

"I showed that video to our team last night to show them this country's been through some tough times before, much more than what we're facing now, and it's not going to end".
