Representatives from agencies across the Las Vegas Valley gathered at Metropolitan Police Department headquarters Friday in response to the previous night's violence in Dallas.

Four officers of the Dallas Police Department and one from Dallas Area Rapid Transit died from wounds they received during the attack. "The package is being secured by DPD (Dallas Police Department) bomb squad".

We'll keep you updated as more information comes out about the suspects. "Those killings must be the subject of a thorough and impartial investigation".

Police believed during the shooting that they were under attack by multiple gunmen using high-powered rifles at ground level and on rooftops.

"We have to have their back", Patrick said of police.

Hundreds of demonstrators had gathered in Dallas, as in several other United States cities, to protest over the fatal police shootings of two black men this week in Louisiana and Minnesota.

On Thursday, five officers were killed while seven others - as well as two civilians - were injured after shots were fired toward the end of what was described as a peaceful protest against recent shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana. Police said they didn't want to risk lives of fellow officers and saw no other option but to kill the suspect.

During an hours long standoff with police following the shooting, Johnson said he "wanted to kill white people, especially white officers", according to Dallas Police Chief David Brown.

In a further statement, police said a police officer had seen a person carrying a camouflaged bag, "walking quickly" down the street.

The following day, Philando Castile was in a auto with his girlfriend and child when he was shot dead by an officer in Minnesota.

"I'm very happy that he can be a public service to the citizens of Detroit", Hayes said.

CBS News confirmed that the suspect has been identified as Micah Xavier Johnson, 25. He added that justice will be done and he's asking all Americans to pray for the fallen officers and their families.

Cooper said he played basketball with Johnson dozens of times near Johnson's suburban house.

Other protests across the US on Thursday were peaceful, including in New York, Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia. "Now!" In Minnesota, where Castile was shot, hundreds of protesters marched in the rain from a vigil to the governor's official residence.
