Samsung Quarter is the Most Profitable in Over Two Years

"With TST, Samsung engineers have made a quantum leap in optimising the operating system and hardware to provide consistent best-in-class performance out of the box and over time", said Samsung India Mobile Business Vice President Manu Sharma.

The company's display division, which also makes screens using organic light-emitting diodes, probably posted a profit of 170bn won, reversing from the 270bn won loss recorded in the previous quarter, according to the Bloomberg survey.

The analyst consensus from stock information provider WISEfn released a day before was 7.6 trillion won, 6.6 percent lower than the actual result.

Sprint has also stepped up its marketing campaigns in recent months, likely in an effort to boost customer adds as the second quarter drew to a close. It's been two years since Samsung has seen a quarterly profit like that.

The company is the world's largest maker of smartphones, televisions, memory chips and display panels.

In earnings guidance released for the April-June period, the manufacturer has forecasted profit will rise 17.4 per cent from a year ago.

Samsung will be selling a limited number of the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games edition starting July 18th in Brazil, the United States, China, Germany, and Korea. There could be some manufacturing-related improvements as well; when Samsung first debuted its dual-curved screen phones in 2015, the firm struggled to meet demand amid potential yield issues. Both devices have garnered critical praise, and demand has been strong, with IBK Securities estimating that Samsung sold roughly 16 million units over the quarter.
