Allyson Felix will not defend her 200m Olympic title in Rio after failing to qualify, but will race in the 400m.
She finished fourth in the 200-meter final, one spot out of the mix, in a.01-second loss to a sprawling Jenna Prandini at the US track and field trials.
"Disappointing", Felix said of the race. I'm just grateful with everything that has happened I'm still able to make the team. He was disqualified, however, in his first race in Beijing, which has served as added motivation to make it back to the world stage in this Olympic year with a winning performance in the U.S. Trials.
She did make the 400-meter lineup, an accomplishment considering the injury she suffered this spring after landing awkwardly on an exercise ball while doing core work.
Tori Bowie and Deajah Stevens finished first and second.
"I don't know what happened", said Prandini, who finished in 22.53 seconds. "But it got the job done". She planned to celebrate by going out for dinner.
McLaughlin was presented her honor by Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford, retired soccer star Abby Wambach, volleyball Olympian April Ross and retired softball star Jennie Finch. "These conditions were really tough and I can't wait to get to a meet and jump something I'm capable of".

McLaughlin, who still has another year at Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains, N.J., finished in 54.15, which sets a world junior record, improving on the 54.46 she ran at the New Balance Nationals in June to break the 32-year-old record set by Leslie Maxie of Mills (Millbrae, Calif.) in 1984.
