Trump's Campaign Strategist and top adviser Paul Manafort, three of Trump's family members, and Kushner met with Pence on Wednesday at the Governor's mansion, which resulted in further speculation and media frenzy.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump (R) and Indiana Governor Mike Pence (L) wave to the crowd before addressing the crowd during a campaign stop at the Grand Park Events Center in Westfield, Indiana, U.S. on July 12, 2016.
Chatter about Pence also increased after the Republicans released a list of speakers at next week's convention - it included Gingrich, Sessions, and Christie, but not Pence. Even in the Midwest, where he's been elected to Congress and has served as governor, 58 percent still have never heard of him.
Donald Trump has chose to announce his vice presidential pick on Friday, according to two people familiar with the planning of the event.
Trump's national campaign spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, told the publication that "a decision has not been made"; sources previously told Reuters that Trump was leaning toward Pence. One source indicated to CNN that he wanted a political attack dog, a true scrapper who could defend Donald Trump from all the "attacks" he receives daily in the press.
"Trump has staked his candidacy on revolutionary change in Washington and there is no one being considered who has actually achieved revolutionary change like Newt Gingrich", said Rick Tyler, a former spokesman for Gingrich.
Prior to serving as Indiana's governor, Pence served in the House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013. That's something people see as a positive for Pence on a Trump ticket given Pence's reputation for a low-key, unflappable demeanor.
"I think he is someone who has connected with everyday Americans like no one since Ronald Reagan", Pence said.
"I'm narrowing it down", Trump told Fox News.
Trump's team has been building hype for the decision, including in a text message to supporters that urged recipients to sign up to receive an early notification of the choice.
Meanwhile, Gingrich, the former Georgia congressman and ex-House Speaker, was en route to Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon for his own private sit-down with Trump and his family.
Gingrich is a boisterous rabble-rouser who has spent decades in Washington and helped define the political battles of the 1990s.
The country will then return to playing Pokemon GO while continuing to wonder how the guy from The Apprentice ever became the Republican nominee for president.
Gingrich has been a steadfast Trump defender for months and has become a trusted adviser to the businessman. Trump has said he opposes abortion, but his views have been inconsistent, and he has said Planned Parenthood provides some valuable services.
