Trump VP pick is IN governor Pence

The Club for Growth, which has criticized Trump over his opposition to free trade and reluctance to endorse entitlement cuts, said it hopes Pence "will be effective in pulling the Republican ticket toward economic conservatism and limited government", said a statement from Club for Growth President David McIntosh.

Trump's decision to reveal his choice on Friday may stem from the fact that Pence faced a noon deadline to withdraw from his race for re-election in Indiana.

It will be a short campaign among Indiana Republicans vying replace Mike Pence as the party's candidate for governor.

During his years in Congress, Pence was known for a calm demeanor and conservative record. Ted Cruz of Texas in the presidential primaries, is well-placed to firm up Trump's support among conservative Republicans, particularly evangelical Christians who favored Cruz over the celebrity real estate tycoon. Trump also seriously considered offering the running mate post to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, according to people familiar with the process. No comedian can do or say anything more hilarious than the gold that Trump and his campaign pump out multiple times a day.

Pence, 57, emerged quickly as a leader on pro-Israel issues during his 12 years in Congress from 2001 to 2013, where he rose rapidly in the GOP caucus leadership, chairing the Republican Conference in his penultimate term, 2011-2013. Republican officials were overwhelmingly positive in their reactions to a Trump-Pence ticket.

Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton took to twitter saying, "He's Donald Trump with a different haircut".

In December, Pence tweeted that calls to ban Muslim immigration to the USA were "offensive and unconstitutional".
