UFC sold to WME-IMG for $4 billion

In the past, WME ǀ IMG had represented UFC and some of its athletes, disclose Emmanuel and Patrick Whitesell, co-CEOs of WME ǀ IMG.

The Fertitta brothers will continue to have a minority stake in UFC, while Lorenzo Fertitta will be stepping down as the chairman and CEO of the organization, according to USA Today.

"UFC has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade and we are looking forward to helping the organization and its athletes identify new opportunities to develop and further establish their global footprint", Emanuel said. "Most importantly, our new owners share the same vision and passion for this organization and its athletes", Lorenzo Fertitta stated.

Dana White is excited to work alongside the new owners and believes it is a momentous occasion, saying: "No other sport compares to UFC". He added that UFC had ambitions to become an Olympic sport one day and explained how an International Mixed Martial Arts federation is being developed to hold discussions with governments around the world in a bid to make it happen.

At this point, the biggest immediate question is whether WME-IMG will continue to represent fighters given this new conflict of interest.

UFC is planning a live fight event at Madison Square Garden, the storied location of legendary boxing prize fights over the past century, on Nov 12.

GameSpot revealed that in terms of the UFC game, an EA Sports representative said that they do not expect the purchase of the UFC by WME-IMG to change the current relationship that they have. The total announcement is predicted as early as Monday morning. Still, it bodes well for the continued success of UFC that, for the time being, things will remain unchanged, with White staying on as president and promotional face of the company. UFC launched its digital Fight Pass in 2013, and has an agreement with Fox television that expires in 2018.
