Fox was born in Garden City, Kansas, and began his playing career at Garden City Community College. "He got four blocks, but he got two points and four rebounds, and every time he checked out of the game, the fans all cheered for him". He also slammed for the first points of the game. Forwards Chris Cokley and William Lee bounced back after rough games against Kansas in a loss Monday and led UAB with 19 points each. "I'm being critical, but I don't think it's that hard to please our fans if you give great effort and play intelligently, and certainly he did what he could tonight". KU tripped Saint Louis, 73-59, in the finals.
NOTES: Jackson was named the tournament MVP.
Kansas stands 32-6 all-time at Sprint Center.
The Georgia Bulldogs have won three of their last four neutral site games.
"He's an extremely talented player", said UAB coach Robert Ehsan. In the small sample of just four games, they are hitting a mere 30% of 3s despite shooting near 20 per night, and only making 63% of their free throws as a team.
"We haven't really done it much so it was kind of new to us", Jackson said, "but obviously it worked". We did not shoot the ball well and if we are going to win then we need to have some guys shoot the ball well.
UAB of Conference USA missed its first 12 shots, but did recover to slice the deficit to five at 33-28 with 1:35 left in the half. The Jayhawks struggled from behind the 3-point arc coming into Monday's contest, but Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk led the way by draining 4-of-5 as Kansas made 12 of their 27 attempts. Jackson's Jayhawks took on the poor Dragons of University of Alabama-Birmingham, and he rained down utter devastation on them with the levitating, powerful dunk through contact above. Whenever his name gets called, this dunk will play on his highlight reel.
Another game like this, and Jackson will be cemented on the short list of must-watch players in college hoops. We thought we could win the game.
"We were exciting going into halftime", Ehsan said. "We fought through some adversity there to pull off the win". "And we're fortunate to be that", Self said.
"They're just not playing very well and not playing very smart and not contributing", Self said. "But they're Kansas for a reason".
Junior guard Yuta Watanabe battles a UAB defender Tuesday night at the Sprint Center. Tyler Cavanaugh also had a strong night, with 21 points and 4 triples. Georgia has experienced playmakers and is eager to prove itself after an up-and-down season previous year that ended with a second round exit in the NIT. On Tuesday night, the Jayhawks proved they can play a little defense, too, even if it meant ditching Self's preferred man-to-man.
The Bulldogs return home to face the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb Friday at Stegeman Coliseum at 7 P.M. The CBE Classic championship game will be played Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN2.
