As the new red-band trailer that debuted today most certainly shows, it also returns Theron to kick-arse mode (she plays a Brit MI6 assassin) that serves a visceral reminder of her Imperator Furiosa role in Mad Max: Fury Road and how good the Oscar victor is at being a badass. Here, we meet MI6 operative Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) literally moments before she takes on a group of thugs in a bruising stairwell fight that frankly looks like it hurt to film. The new footage gives a brief glimpse of the Oscar-winning actress putting her hand-to-hand combat abilities on full display as well as some other titillating scenes from the action flick. But after watching Theron as Feriosa in Mad Max Fury Road, she might have been the one throwing out pointers for Reeves.
Academy Award victor Charlize Theron headlines the Atomic Blonde, directed by David Leitch (John Wick, the upcoming Deadpool sequel) from an adapted screenplay by Kurt Johnstad. Broughton is sent to Berlin to deliver a "priceless dossier", and partners with an embedded chief detective in the city, David Percival (James McAvoy), to try and make it out of the city alive.
Atomic Blonde is out in Uk cinemas on August 11.
