Kejriwal, Cong cry foul over EVMs

Claiming that the EVM machines are not tamperable, the EC stated that it is unfair to blame the EVMs for the loss of AAP in Punjab.

The poll watchdog also said that as per laws related to elections, after the declaration of results, the only option available to verify the data of votes cast was filing an election petition before the High Court concerned.

"This activity was scrupulously followed in the State of Punjab during recently concluded assembly elections and nowhere any discrepancy was observed in result of mock poll".

"We do not trust the EVMs anymore".

Ahead of civic election in the national capital and by-elections in few other states, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal once again raised the EVM issue by saying that they were "fudged repeatedly", on Saturday, media reports. The Congres on its part also levelled allegations against the BJP for tampering with the EVMs and demanded that ballot paper be reintroduced.

The AAP then submitted a letter to the ECI, in which it stated that they had reached to the conclusion that there had been large-scale rigging through tampering of EVMs.

The minister said the Election Commission has chose to replace 9,30,430 EVMs purchased before 2006 in a phased manner before the General Election and simultaneous assembly polls in 2019.

It said the poll panel would send "a team of high-level officers" to Madhya Pradesh "to ensure the correct functioning" of voting machines and the voter-verified paper audit trail machines that briefly show a slip with the symbol of the party voted for. The video of machine favouring the BJP had gone viral prompting the EC to launch a probe and order the removal of both the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police.

"The ECI-EVMs can not be compared with those EVMs and ECI-EVMs are tamper-proof".

"When elections all over the world, including in the developed countries, are taking place with ballot paper, why should we have problems in doing so", Singh said, adding he had doubts on the efficacy of EVMs right from day one. "This may please be noted as a responsible political party", it told AAP.

The delegation demanded to reverify the authenticity of all voting machines being deployed during these elections which must be done transparently in the presence of authorised representatives of political parties or candidates.
