ABC to reboot American Idol

The site adds Idol is considering switching to once-weekly episodes (previous seasons included two or three episodes each week) and noted that auditions will probably be consolidated to Disney World and Disney Land instead of various cities across the country.

There was big news today in American television as it was revealed that "American Idol", one of the first reality competition shows to grace the small screen, will return this fall on ABC.

There is no word regarding a host or judges yet, but Ryan Seacrest is the heavy favorite to return as host since he now works for ABC as a co-host on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Kelly Clarkson is reportedly top choice to join the new judging line-up for ABC's American Idol reboot. "We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams". I hear the producers back then offered the same format for the show at the high price point at the end of its run, making it a tough proposition for the network, which felt it was too soon to bring Idol back without significant reinvention.

During negotiations last week, ABC insiders told Variety it would likely air in March 2018 on Sunday nights.

"All of the intense speculation surrounding the comeback of American Idol demonstrates just how popular and powerful this brand remains", said Peter Hurwitz, the CEO of 19 Entertainment parent company CORE Media Group. There's been speculation that he would return as host, though it would be logistically tough to pull off as "Live" tapes in NY and "Idol's" producers want it to remain in Los Angeles. "American Idol" brought us Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson, and ABC is officially bring back America's beloved singing competition where stars are born!

The show has already been a part of the Disney-ABC family, with "The American Idol Experience" taking residence at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park for five years. First season victor Kelly Clarkson has also put her hand into country music over the years. "They said, 'Yeah it may actually come here, '" Seacrest said recounting the phone call. "I say "yes" and bow to you".
