Smith said live on his show First Take that the 76ers were looking to trade the No. 3 pick for Butler, and the Celtics are now trying to do the same - plus add Gordon Hayward in free agency. During the six-game playoff series against the Celtics, Butler averaged 22.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

Danny Ainge might just be getting started.

Think of it this way: If you polled a bunch of Celtics fans week ago asking if they'd trade the first overall pick as part of a package including Crowder for Butler, nobody would say it. Does adding Butler to the mix get them over the hump?

According to ESPN's Stephen A Smith, the Bulls were willing to trade Butler to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for the No. 3 overall pick among other assets.

There might be a method to the madness, as the C's GM continues to search for the ideal deal to make Boston championship contenders.

For the longest time, that rumored star has been Chicago Bulls' biggest star: Jimmy Butler.

The Bulls aren't giving Butler away. "Philadelphia in turn said, 'Hey, we don't want Jimmy Butler". From one perspective, it would make more sense for Celtics to first try to lure Hayward with a long-term big-money contract the first week of July rather than trade established National Basketball Association talent and assets this week for Butler, who they'd have control of for two years before he can hit free agency again.

Between holding the No. 16 and No. 32 draft picks, deciding whether or not to re-sign Rajon Rondo, and waiting to see if Dwyane Wade sticks around... this summer is sure to yield plenty of change.
