FILE - In this June 7, 2017, file photo, University of California Los Angeles guard Lonzo Ball takes questions from the media after a closed Los Angeles Lakes pre-draft workout in El Segundo, Calif.
Shortly after being selected #2 overall in the NBA Draft, LaVar stated boldly that his son would "take the Lakers to the playoffs his first year". Everyone knew it was coming and it was only a matter of making it to the 2017 NBA Draft for it to happen, but it did and there is no big shock there. "On Thursday night, hopefully we make a decision that results in one of those franchise-level players being here". With Julius Erving heading into his final season and owner Harold Katz intent on unloading Moses Malone, you would think that adding the first overall pick would be a great way to stabilize the team's future. Ball raised his family in the Los Angeles suburbs.
Things are expected to settle down a bit for at least the first two picks.
The one certainty about this year's Celtics-76ers trade is that Philadelphia now has one of the most exciting and dynamic young cores in the National Basketball Association, with Fultz joining Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid to form a potential big three. Still, the Lakers need to sign the guard out of UCLA to a contract and that will likely mean having to deal with his father, LaVar Ball, before all is said and done.
Who could Hornets target at No. 11? De'Aaron Fox, a point guard who scored 39 points against Ball-led UCLA in the national college tournament, is also among the top prospects. No matter what happens, these will both be great National Basketball Association players.
The 19-year-old point guard had 14.6 points, 7.6 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals a game for the Bruins last season.
