The real story behind Gal Gadot's paych

It was always going to be one of Warner Bros.' tentpole movies, so shouldn't Gadot have received a paycheck commensurate with the profile of the film she was starring in? If it doesn't, well, she hasn't signed on for anything beyond Justice League, so her agent is probably working on cutting a much more lucrative deal for the inevitable Wonder Woman II, where she saves the world from a "war to end all wars" that takes place a mere twenty years after she ensures an everlasting Earthly peace.

As of this writing, Wonder Woman holds a 92 % Rotten Tomatoes score with 278 (out of 302) fresh reviews, as well as an "A" CinemaScore, making it the highest rated movie set within the DC Extended Universe.

A viral meme claiming that Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot earned a meager fraction of Man of Steel star Henry Cavill's salary is based on unreliable attribution and a misunderstanding of how Hollywood actors structure their contracts. As the Daily Dot's Gavia Baker-Whitelaw noted, it's the same amount Chris Evans earned for the first Captain America film and more than some of his fellow Avengers made for their first team-up.

The issue of Gadot's low pay has once again kicked off conversations around the Hollywood pay gap.

Gadot is clearly a much newer star, so should expect to see her salaries sharply increase from now on.

Gal Gadot only got US$300,000 (AU$395,000) in "Wonder Woman".

Meanwhile, in a separate Variety interview, Geoff Johns - the man who oversees the studio's entire DC Extended Universe alongside Jon Berg - said he's now writing the treatment with Jenkins, but did not confirm if she's coming back to direct.

According to Variety, Gadot earned just $300,000 ($394,980 AUD) for the film.

"What makes the impact of Wonder Woman so wonderful is that even without these children actually watching the movie, it has changed the way they play games, the way they view superheroes, the way they interact with each other", she wrote.

Without knowing what they earned in bonuses and percentages, it is impossible to compare their final take.

But Gadot could be in line for a huge bonus due to the success of her stand alone film. In fact, other famous actors now playing superheroes made the same amount for their origin story films. Marvel is a step further with Robert Downey Jr earning some $50 million for his role as Tony Stark/ Iron Man in The Avengers. However, for "Wonder Woman", not only is her character's name the title of the film, she also unquestionably led it at the top of box office worldwide.

Outside of show stopping stunts and battle scenes, Wonder Woman also positively displays some of the inherent differences between men and women, according to Jay.
