Overwatch's Doomfist is getting heavily teased again as new lore revealed

A new lore update released by Blizzard for Overwatch gave what could be the biggest clue so far that Doomfist is finally coming to the massively popular multiplayer shooter. In an Overwatch blog update created to appear as "Times of Numbani" news article, it was confirmed that Doomfist had escaped from the Helix Security International's maximum security installation.

The official Blizzard post said: "Information and details of what happened were scarce as has been any news from the installation, said to be a prison for the world's most risky threats".

Per the breaking news-like announcement, "Overwatch's" antagonistic faction - Talon - facilitated the escape of a prisoner named Akande Ogundimu who also goes by the moniker Doomfist, according to PVP Live.

In describing the details of the attack, the post mentions "a black shadowy figure" who defeat's the prison guards handily with the injuries of those left dead "matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper". As Gamespot speculates, this could be Reaper.

Doomfist has been hyped since the first Overwatch cinematic trailer.

"After escaping from the facility, Helix lost track of Ogundimu until he resurfaced in Numbani, where he clashed with the newly introduced OR15 defense robots at the Adawe International Terminal, easily destroying them and reclaiming the Doomfist". In a faux news article from the Times of Numbani, Blizzard has all but confirmed that we'll be seeing Doomfist in Overwatch sooner than expected. Most importantly, as a result of that Ogundimu has now "reclaimed the Doomfist". The gauntlet was also part of the Numbani map until it was stolen in February, and a banner depicts three Doomfist wearers as The Savior, The Scourge, and The Successor. Through Sombra, Orisa and Ana, it's always been Doomfist's name that has sparked the fanbase's curiosity, especially when you've got Terry Crews champing at the bit to play the character. However, it remains unclear whether the new Doomfist is a hero or a villain until Blizzard officially reveals the character.
