The Arunachal Physical Education and Sports Union (APESU) celebrated National Sports Day with the theme "Sports is the best weapon in the battle for peace on Earth" at Government Higher Secondary School, Chimpu. The National Sports Day celebrations are a commemoration of his achievements.
During the programme, a total of 100 sportspersons from 7 sports disciplines who have excelled in both the national and regional competitions were felicitated with cash awards.

Every year, on his birthday, Indian President presents the sports-related awards including the Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna to honour sports persons who have made a recognisable contribution to Indian sports.

But more than a big budget, it was also the myth surrounding sports films in India where up until Lagaan (2002), the genre was usually considered a no-go in terms of box office success that must have dented the chances of an adaptation. He also added that the sports search portal was launched to harness the huge sports talent in India.
