The Clovis Police Department posted a statement that said: On Monday, August 28th, 2017, at about 4:13 p.m., Officers of the Clovis Police Department were dispatched to 701 North Main Street, The Clovis Carver Public Library, for a mobile active shooter. He said the teen, who was dating his daughter, had been searching for "inner peace" and making strides in his life.
Her husband, Lupe Aguirre, went inside the library to search for his wife when he heard the shots and saw smoke clearing from gunfire.
Some victims were received at Plains Regional Medical Centre in Clovis, said Kerri Dufault, spokeswoman for Albuquerque based Presbyterian Healthcare Centre, which operates the Clovis hospital.
"Everything was going through my mind from where is he going to shoot me, to how is it going to feel". "He said, 'Now I got something to smile about.' We had no indication of anything wrong with him".
"It all happened so fast", witness Vanessa Aguirre told the Eastern New Mexico News. When a shooter opened the firing, a woman who was standing nearly 20 feet away from him told media the exact statement by the gunman. "Why aren't you running?"
Baird talked to the newspaper through Facebook Messenger. "He kind of walked across like nothing", he says of the suspect.
"My initial thought was why would someone throw a cherry bomb or M80 firecracker into the library?".
Baird says she dove under a nearby desk "and tried to squish up as small as possible". I just kept my head down.
Authorities did not immediately release the names of those who died at the public library in Clovis, N.M.
Officials at the news conference did provided little information about the the suspected shooter or say what the motive might be. He did not resist arrest, the chief said. He calls the shooting tragic and senseless.
"This is a big blow to our community", Lansford said at a news conference.
Clovis has a population of 40,000, located about 300 kilometers east of Albuquerque, not far from the Texas border.
