Sergio Aguero could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after crash in Amsterdam

A spokesman for the Netherland Police Department confirmed there was a vehicle crash involving a Manchester City player in Amsterdam on Thursday night.

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is reportedly set to miss 6-8 weeks after suffering a fractured rib late on Thursday night.

Aguero's absence means there will be great pressure on Gabriel Jesus to shoulder responsibility and help Manchester City maintain their impressive form in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old will arrive back in Manchester on Friday afternoon after being discharged from hospital, but has missed City's final training session ahead of Saturday's game against Chelsea.

The forward was in Amsterdam on his day off to see a concert when he careered into into a traffic post while being driven back to the airport.

Manchester City confirmed the incident with a statement on the club's official website Friday morning.

Aguero is understood to be suffering from broken ribs. I don't want to know what my players do.

"I don't know, I am not a doctor, I don't know exactly what he has".

His former club CA Indipendiente wished their former player a speedy recovery and tweeted saying: "Strength and quick recovery".

The striker has scored seven goals in eight matches for City this season, helping Pep Guardiola's side reach the top of the Premier League and win their first two Champions League group matches.

Kompany has missed the last six games with a calf injury and remains out of action despite being called up for global duty by Belgium.

He is expected to be out injured for at least two months as he recovers from the injury.

The news is a devastating blow to City's Premier League title hopes after an exhilarating start to the season.

This news caps a horrendous week for Man City on the injury front.
