"He's a very honorable man".
Mnuchin, who had insisted earlier on Tuesday that tax overhaul would be a certainty before year's end, told CNBC that backdating was "something we are considering and it would be a big boon for the economy". Despite failing to mention about 9-figures of assets on his financial disclosure forms, his net worth is estimated to be at least $300 million.
An Air Force spokesman told ABC News that the requested jet costs about $25,000 an hour to operate. Shockingly, Mnuchin's request was denied. "That's just slap your forehead stuff". The request for a plane was withdrawn.
The use of such a jet would be highly unusual for a secretary of the Treasury, as military aircraft are typically reserved for cabinet members that deal directly with national security. And for private travel?
Rep. Mark Walker, a leading House conservative who was critical of Mnuchin's pitch on the debt ceiling, sounded like he was willing to give the secretary another chance. Ultimately, the department nixed the request, and other arrangements were made. In her post, Linton included hashtags of various luxury designers she was wearing, which prompted criticism from an OR mother of three who wrote "glad we could pay for your little getaway".
Linton responded by belittling the woman in a series of comments and even mentioned her honeymoon.
On social media, Linton, responding to an OR woman who criticized her "little getaway" to Kentucky, wrote "I'm pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day trip than you did".
"Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you'd be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours", Linton wrote back. "Did you think the USA govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?!"
In addition, the administration would consider including an infrastructure spending bill as part of the tax legislation, Mnuchin said.
Just a few weeks after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and his wife Louise Linton caused drama on Instagram over their use of a government plane, it appears as if the couple asked to use a U.S. Air Force jet to escort the ridiculously rich couple on their honeymoon.
A spokesperson for the Treasury Department issued a statement saying Mnuchin, a member of the National Security Council was concerned about maintaining a secure method of communication during his travel.
