Airtel announces 4G smarthphone for an effective price of ₹1399

Airtel partners with Karbonn to roll out 4G enabled feature phone; here's how much it costs

Reliance JioPhone effect: Airtel partners with Karbonn to launch 4G smartphone at Rs 1399

Indian telecom operator Airtel and smartphone maker Karbonn have partnered to bring a 4G VoLTE smartphone at the price of a feature phone. We are delighted to partner with Karbonn to remove barriers to smartphone adoption and enable millions of Indians to leapfrog to a full touchscreen smartphone experience. The initiative will see the telecom network join hands with more OEMs in the days to come to "create an open ecosystem of affordable 4G smartphones and bring them to market for virtually the price of a feature phone". According to Airtel, in addition to the price of Rs 1399 for the phone, a monthly pack of Rs 169 is essential.

The company further said that this is the first of several partnerships that Airtel plans to have with mobile handset manufacturers to bring highly affordable bundled 4G smartphone options to the market.

The Karbonn A40 Indian is powered by 1.3GHz processor and it comes with 1GB of RAM.

The A40 has two cameras: a 2-megapixel camera on the back and a 0.3-megapixel camera on the front.

Another notable aspect of the new Karbonn A40 Indian is that it comes with dual-SIM slots offering consumers the freedom to choose the network of their choice, whereas the JioPhone users have no other option than Reliance Jio.

Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone was launched in July 2017. Through this association, we aim at strengthening our reach with the consumer that resides at the heart of smart telephony.

Just like the JioPhone, a customer needs to make a down payment of Rs 2,899 for the 4G smartphone. The customer then has to recharge the phone with Rs 169 for 36 months without a break.

Like we already said, the Karbonn A40 Indian is effectively priced at ₹1399, however, you do get a total cashback of ₹1500 after 36 months without having to return your device. The partnership, which is clearly meant to rival RIL's much-ambitious JioPhone, is part of Airtel's Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone initiative. All smartphones under this initiative will be available at leading mobile retail stores across the country.

Karbonn A40 Indian is a 4G smartphone that supports dual SIM slot. Double SIM is bolstered so you can utilize both Airtel and Jio SIM inside the A40. "Although, to guarantee the money discount advantage, recharge plans of worth Rs. 3,000 must be done inside the initial 18 months (to assert the main discount portion of Rs. 500) and another Rs. 3,000 throughout the following 18 months (to guarantee the second discount portion of Rs. 1000), Airtel included".

This is a comparison between Airtel smartphone and Reliance Jio Phone based on specifications and features. The company has not mentioned the kind of data and voice call benefits that users will get at Rs 169.

Karbonn A 40 runs on Android Nougat 7.0 and supports 22 languages including various regional languages.
