The new Echo, a shorter and wider version of the original, comes in fabric, wood and metal finishes to fit in with décor. Both the speakers come with a second generation far-field technology for even better performance. It supports all of Alexa's features to let you control smart home devices from anywhere in your home.
The combination of several tasks into a single command is also the first step towards making interacting with Alexa simpler.
The all-new Echo, with a new design and improved sound, will retail for $99.99, and Echo Plus, with a built-in smart home hub, will retail for $149.99. "With the proliferation of Echo devices, there's a chance for confusion in the marketplace: with so many devices, with varying functions and costs, which product is best served to win". The company points out it will be easy to use, "Just say, "Alexa, discover my devices", and Echo Plus will automatically discover and set up compatible lights, locks, plugs, switches, and more without the need for additional hubs or apps".
You can preorder the deal now and the devices will arrive October 25, when the new 4K Fire TV ships.
It's worth noting that the new device is much smaller than the Fire TV boxes that came before. It will also be rolling out a Home device with improved sound called the "Home Max" that will compete with these improved Echo devices and Apple's forthcoming HomePod.
The new Echo Spot is a $130 smart alarm clock with a camera and 2.5-inch screen to make video calls. United Kingdom users will still be able to purchase the Echo Dot or the Echo Show - unfortunately not the Echo Spot - for now.
Audio quality from the Spot won't be unbelievable, but you can hook up an external speaker via Bluetooth or AUX. Likewise, the unit also incorporates enhanced 360 degree omni-directional audio with Dolby processing, along with music playback support from services like Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and more.
You can order your Fire TV now, and it will ship on October 25.
When is the Echo Spot release date? Once connected, you can just ask your Echo to call someone and the call will be routed through the Echo to Echo Connect to your landline connection to whoever you are calling.
Other announcements included that Alexa is getting integrated into BMWs and other select mini vehicles starting in 2018.
In addition, the company has revealed the gadget Echo Plus. However, the company will most likely start integrating other features into them.
These will set you back £19 for a pair so could be a good gift idea.
Physical controls for devices that are created to be controlled by voice might seem silly at first.
