Google is finally getting serious about video calling on Android

This means consumers can now make video calls directly from the phone, messages, and contacts. It's one of Google's many messaging apps: Android Messages, Allo, Duo, Hangouts Chat, and Hangouts Meet - YouTube even got a chat feature recently.

Provided that you already have the duo configured on your device all you need to do is go to any of the three supported apps and place a video call.

Google today announced it is integrating video calling into Android via Google Duo.

"You can now start a video call directly from where you call or text message your friends, through your Phone, Contacts, and Android Messages apps", product manager Jan Jedrzejowicz wrote in a blog post.

Starting tomorrow, October 12th, Verizon stores throughout the United States will have the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on display in the store for you to look at and try for yourself. It scans every app before you install it.

Scott Charlston, the PR maven for Google's carrier partner Verizon, tweeted that you should head on down to the nearest store if you want a hands-on preview of the Pixel 2. Google says they have started rolling out "video calling to first-generation Pixel, Android One, and Nexus devices". ViLTE stands for video over LTE and is an extension of VoLTE. Duo is available for download as a separate app on the Play Store.

However, that's never really been the case with Android, with Google's Hangouts and Duo apps failing to offer the same levels of integration.
