Troy (3-1) is coming off a 22-17 win over Akron. To start the second quarter, down only 10-0, Tennessee got a hopeful interception, 27 yards from paydirt that never would pay. LSU joins Missouri, which was ranked 17th when it lost 24-14 at Troy in 2004.

With hindsight certainly being 20/20, here are three reasons Alleva was best off looking elsewhere in search of LSU's next head coach.

LSU turned that fumble into more points off turnovers, driving 92 yards in less than two minutes to close the gap to 24-21. LSU scored two touchdowns with Danny Etling back in the game in the fourth quarter. NMSU's Tyler Rogers threw for 344 yards and two TDs, but the Aggies rushed for just 11 yards on 14 attempts. The ensuing onside kick is recovered by the Trojans at their own 45-yard line.

"Back to the drawing board", Orgeron said and proceeded to criticize first-year offensive coordinator Matt Canada and second-year defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. Making just his fifth start, the junior ran for 94 yards, hit Tavien Feaster with a pass the speedy running back took 60 yards for a score and avoided mistakes.

The first of 30 practice days saw the LSU Basketball Tigers go nearly three hours in the LSU practice facility Friday, as the media got its first real look at the Tigers on the floor under the direction of head coach Will Wade.

Etling replaced Brennan on LSU's next possession and immediately put the Tigers in the end zone. LSU would likely need to move in on Kelly quickly, as the Tennessee Volunteers will also be quite interested in his services. Linebacker Devin White added 11 tackles, while end Greg Gilmore had nine tackles and a sack.

Troy cornerback Blace Brown, whose interception closed out the game, said this year's team was playing for the previous teams who had fallen just short against LSU. Wide receiver Derrick Dillon fumbled after a 2-yard catch, and Melvin Tyus recovered for Troy.

Brennan started the third quarter for regular starter Danny Etling and completed 4 of 5 passes for 68 yards with the touchdown. It's unclear whether Etling might return.

Troy quarterback Brandon Silvers got the Trojans on the board first with a 1-yard touchdown rush to go up 7-0 at the 13:13 mark of the first quarter. That set up Troy's last-play field goal that sent the Trojans into the locker room with a 10-0 lead. He did not play for much of the second half.

Troy put itself in ideal position in the first half because of its stellar play on third down. Legassey misses a 36-yard field goal. Tailback Jordan Chunn gained 191 yards on 30 carries.

AUBURN, Ala. - Quarterback Jarret Stidham threw two touchdowns and the Auburn defense bottled up a potent Mississippi State offense for the lopsided victory.

Troy (4-1) became the first team from outside the Southeastern Conference to win at Death Valley since UAB in 2000.

Top LSU running back Derrius Guice was in uniform but Orgeron said he was too hurt to play. Orgeron went 6-2 to close the year, including a Citrus Bowl win against Louisville and Heisman Trophy quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Trojans have committed more penalties than anyone in this great nation - even LSU.
