"Harry Potter: Wizards Unite" AR game will be an immersive experience inside the wizarding world, where players can learn spells and cast them according to their needs, exploring their real-world neighborhood transformed into a magical location, and fight legendary beasts and dark wizards. Interactive Entertainment's Portkey Games, a new games label dedicated to creating video game and mobile experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World.
Much like Pokemon Go, the game will use augmented reality to turn the world around us into the world of Harry, Hermione, the bloke from Cracker and the rest of the gang.
The game "will reveal that magic is all around us", reads the press release. On that same day, HBO will also be airing the entire series starting at 9:00 AM ET/PT with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and ending with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The only thing we can hope is somehow Niantic works with J.K. Rowling on this app, and sets up a sorting hat situation to determine your "teams" via houses, rather than just choosing what team you're on, like in 'Pokemon Go'.
It will be on their Niantic platform, which, if you've followed 'Pokemon Go' at all, is derived from a game called 'Ingress.' The platform is basically the same, only instead of the portals, those are your PokeStops.
