"My brother can not commit suicide". The words "Padmavati ka virodh (Protest against Padmavati)" were also found at the same place. Lokendra singh Kalvi of the Karni Sena, who earlier led violent demonstrations against the film, described this morning's death as "regrettable" and said "it should not have happened". He also found it hard to believe that he had anything to do with the sentences scribbled on the rock. It is, however, not known if this is a case of a suicide or a murder. The police along with the forensic experts recreated the scene, and found that it was indeed a case of suicide, as the deceased had used a nylon rope, which was tied to one end of the concrete arch on the fort and the other was put around his neck before he leapt to his death. "His family members have ruled out foul play", said Prafulla Kumar, additional commissioner of police (crime-1), speaking to mid-day from Jaipur. The text on the wall reads, "Padmavati, hum sirf putle nahi latkate (Padmavati, we hang not just effigies)". The Rajput Karni Sena and several politicians have strongly opposed the release of the movie because it is rumoured to have a dream sequence between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji, something Bhansali has constantly denied. "What is happening? Shocked, [sic]" Alia Bhatt tweeted.
The Shri Rajput Karni Sena, which has been spearheading a campaign against Padmavati with the demand for a ban on its release, distanced itself from the incident.
His remarks, however, assume significance as they come amid protests by many groups against Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Padmavati, alleging that the movie distorts history. Protests erupted after allegations were made that the film showed relations between Rani Padmini and Khilji. However, things seem to have gotten even worse with time.
