Kulgam-In a fierce gun battle between government forces and militants in Nowbug Kund area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district, a militant and a soldier were killed while a cop associated with Special Operation Group sustained injuries. "The operation got prolonged as the trapped militants changed their positions during the exchange of fire", the official said. "The militants were asked to surrender, but they fired from automatic weapons".
A hideout of Jaish-e-Muhammad militant outfit was busted in the operation, said the official.
A militant was also killed in the operation, the sources said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Nowbug Kund village in Qazigund area of Kulgam this morning. Though some reports said Mudasir was a B Tech graduate, Pani ruled out this.
A police official said Bhat was from the volatile Palhalan area.
Authorities suspended Internet services in south Kashmir areas and ordered the suspension of train service for the day after the gunfight started. "In village Lam-Tral of Pulwama, gunfight between militants and contingents of police and army is underway". The security personnel retaliated, resulting in the encounter in which two militants were killed.
The two militants had attacked a police party on Monday evening, according to The Hindu.
