Tunisia, Morocco, reach Russia 2018

For Tunisia, the barren draw they recorded against Libya on Saturday was enough to get them another World Cup ticket after they narrowly missed out at the Brazil 2014 edition.

Morocco needed only a draw in their last group game to finish top of the Group C standings in the African preliminaries, ahead of the Ivorians, who had to win to clinch a fourth successive World Cup finals appearance.

Morocco has qualified for the World Cup in Russian Federation by winning in Ivory Coast 2-0 in what was a straight shootout for the place from Africa Group C.

In the 1990 World Cup UAE and Egypt qualified, in the 1994 World Cup Saudi Arabia and Morocco participated and in the 1998 World Cup in Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia were there.

But after weathering an early storm, including a potential penalty call, Morocco scored two goals in the space of five minutes to put themselves on their way to the finals, in which they last appeared in 1998, in France.

The win takes Congo up to 13 points, but Libya's failure to beat Tunisia means they end the campaign tantalisingly one point short of the North Africans.

Despite needing only a point to qualify, the Atlas Lions weren't prepared to sit on a slender lead and doubled their advantage five minutes later when former Bayern Munich center back Medhi Benatia turned in a left wing corner.

"Therefore you have to play without sparing yourself in order to win it...but defeat never crossed my mind" Renard who coached the Ivorians to the 2015 title of the African Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea said.

Tunisia survived some nervous moments in Rades as Libya finished strongly.
