SAP encourages its customers to run its products not only on Microsoft Azure but also on rival cloud platforms from Amazon, Google, IBM and SAP's own in-house cloud services. Parts of the website may not work as expected without them. Using Azure infrastructure to run SAP's solutions entails paying for Azure virtual machine time and any other Azure services used.
Microsoft has roped in business-software vendor SAP as a cloud partner, its latest effort at using alliances to challenge Amazon's dominance in the fast-growing business segment, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP, echoed the sentiment, adding that the world's largest enterprises "trust Microsoft and SAP".
"Building on our longtime partnership, Microsoft and SAP are harnessing each other's products to not only power our own organizations, but to empower our enterprise customers to run their most mission-critical applications and workloads with SAP S/4HANA on Azure", commented Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, in a November 27 announcement. Additionally, SAP agreed to run its HANA in-memory database on Azure.

At AutoMobility LA™ Cubic Telecom will demonstrate how its data analytics solution powered by Azure Location Based Services will help city planners, automotive OEMs and third parties to more effectively manage Electrical Vehicle (EV) charging station locations, occupancy rates and overall efficiency of the infrastructure. In addition, SAP said it's migrating 12 or more of its "business critical systems" to Azure.
Microsoft Corp.is expanding its long-running partnership with German enterprise software giant SAP SE. The list of their mutual customers includes companies like Coca-Cola, Coats and Costco Wholesale and Columbia Sportswear. Both Microsoft and SAP will be publicly documenting the process in order to provide customers with leadership and guidance on the deployment of SAP services on Azure.
