One of the major complaints about the Georgia Tech football game all season has been its inability to close.

The Hokies opened the scoring at the 10:20 mark of the first quarter.

Down in Blacksburg at Cassel Coliseum on Sunday, the Citadel Bulldogs and the Virginia Tech Hokies will be meeting up in college basketball action. The lead didn't last long as the Yellow Jackets controlled the majority of the half.

Virginia Tech took a 22-21 lead with 7:27 to play in the game when Greg Stroman intercepted Marshall's pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown. That was just one of multiple big plays for the Yellow Jackets.

Josh Jackson passes against Georgia Tech. However, the Hokies stalled once again, this time at the 8-yard line. Virginia Tech's inconsistent offense could have used the field position, practically starting the drive in the red zone. Bush tried to scramble for the first down but Georgia Tech stopped him for a loss to end the drive. Virginia Tech would go for two and fail to convert, leaving the score at 14-9 entering the half.

Some early game decisions to chase points put them in that bind.

"We're trying to stay on the number", Fuente said. It's fourth and two, and we really felt like that was our best chance. We're going to have to play great defense, be really good on special teams and be opportunistic offensively. "We have been in the right place, but we were caught in poor leverage and they made us pay".

Virginia Tech also bagged a win in their opener over Detroit Mercy, 111-79. In total, seven Tech rushers had positive yardage.

The touchdown grab was Stewart's only reception on the afternoon.

The Hokies offense couldn't get anything going on its next drive and Georgia Tech took over with good field position. Instead of kicking the extra point, Fuente went for two in an effort to pull within a field goal.

The offensive struggles have been a problem in several games this season, but the Hokies have been unable to overcome them in consecutive weeks.

After the game, there seemed to be some confusion between Fuente and Jackson.

"I have confidence in my arm at all times, but it's very frustrating to me when I overthrow someone or miss a pass that probably should be completed", Marshall said. Eric Kumah caught six passes for 82 yards.

Georgia Tech junior linebacker Tre' Jackson followed the Astros shortstop's lead on Saturday as he proposed to girlfriend Desi Nathe after his team's upset victory over Virginia Tech.
