Queens will surely be dancing at the news that the full trailer has arrived for Mamma Mia!
In the first film, Sophie Sheridan, played by Amanda Seyfried, has invited, unbeknownst to her mother, Donna (Meryl), three men to her upcoming wedding, having learned from her mom's diary that one of then could be her father. Moreover, we now know who Cher is playing: Donna's ruthless mother, who rejected her upon learning of her unplanned pregnancy.
"I think the world is ready for Mamma Mia!". Aside from a few dreamy-looking shots, Streep is curiously absent and referenced only in the past tense, leaving fans (and a number of media outlets) to speculate on Donna's fate. Fans have been waiting over ten-years for the follow-up, the original film grossed over $600M globally and will bring back numerous same characters.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is slated for a July 2018 release.
Calling on her own mum's experiences, she delves into her mother Donna's past to learn how she coped with being an only parent. The story will follow Sophie's journey while also giving us flashbacks of young Donna's life. "That's the best kind of party, little girl", Cher responds.
However, it ought to be noted, Streep is in the movie and the scenes she's filmed are completely new - not taken from the original.
The film is due for release in the United Kingdom on 27th July 2018, so put it in your diaries, girls.
