Amazon Prime Video on Apple TV, Company Announces

Amazon Prime Video app rolling out to Apple TV App Store

Amazon Prime Video finally comes to Apple TV

Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Austria and Japan can use the app to watch videos purchased or rented from Amazon. Currently, if you try to purchase a film or TV show through Amazon's iOS app, you're redirected to Amazon's website to complete the purchase. After many months and questions on whether Apple would keep its promise, Prime Video has finally arrived on Apple TV and can be downloaded via the App Store in tvOS.

"We are so pleased to welcome Amazon to Apple TV", Cook said on stage in June.

This is good news for Amazon and Apple customers who have had to forego a less than friendly relationship between the two companies.

Ever since its first iteration, one of the Apple TV's major weaknesses has been its lack of an Amazon Video app. Apple listened to customer complaints, and promised way back in September that the service would make its way to the premium streaming box in question.

The move comes amid growing tensions between Amazon and Google; just yesterday, Google revealed it is pulling YouTube from Amazon's Fire TV and Echo Show, after the firm refused to sell Google's competing devices.

While the section is launching with support from ESPN and the NBA, Apple promises that more providers will be added soon.

"We've been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other's products and services", a Google spokesperson said in a statement obtained by Engadget.

It's also excellent news for Apple TV 4K owners as the addition of Amazon's streaming service means the library of 4K content available to them has increased significantly.
