Apple unveils best Apps, Music, Movies, and TV Shows for 2017

Apple announces App of the Year, Game of the Year and Best of 2017 top charts

Apple reveals the most popular iPhone apps of 2017

Apple on Thursday published its annual Best of 2017 list, highlighting the year's top apps, games, movies, TV shows, podcasts, books and more as determined by Apple employees.

There's some predictable overlap between the two tech titans' lists of 2017 top sellers, as Game of Thrones, for instance, dominates both Apple and Google's latest yearly TV show charts. It has also announced most popular apps, music, movies and more ...

Finally, iTunes U saw a bumper year, with computer science courses being amongst the most popular, with the top three apps focusing on learning to code and developing apps - certainly a handy thing for iTunes to teach users.

The company's iPad app of the year is Affinity Photo, a professional-level photo editing suite that can handle uncompressed RAW files and allows you to create an unlimited number of layers. Apple says its app of the year for iPhone is Calm, a meditation and sleep app, and Splitter Critters is 2017's iPhone game of the year.

Super Mario Run tops the most downloaded games chart, followed by 8 Ball Pool, Snake VS Block, Ballz, Word Cookies and Subway Surfers.

Snapchat's 2016 crown was snatched from them, but only just, by the popular Bitmooji app, which is owned by Snap.

iOS apps are not only limited to the iPhone as Apple also took the time to list the best selling apps on their iPad tablet. This includes different categories such as casual games, general apps, augmented reality and more. Apple adds that in the US, Drake leads the Album of the year on Apple Music with "More Life". Taylor Swift's latest album, Reputation, has already reached the third spot on the 2017 USA top album charts despite having just launched on November 10.

For movies, the top film was Moana followed by the Stars Was instalment Rogue One.
