New Arizona State football coach Herman Edwards displayed the passion for which he is known on Monday during his introductory press conference.
Do you think Edwards has no clue that he is head coach of the Sun Devils?
Hopefully, the big man upstairs takes no issue.
Edwards has coached for the Under Armor All-America game for the past eight years, and recently said on SportsCenter that it contributed to him wanting to return to the coaching world.
Edwards will oversee ASU's "New Leadership Model", which will implement a "general manager structure" to the Sun Devil football program. He also coached the New York Jets from 2001 to 2005 before going to Kansas City in 2006. He is longtime friends with Anderson, who served as Edwards's agent during his NFL playing career, and has coached the Under Armour All-America Game, which features some of the nation's top high school football recruits, for the past eight years.
This will mark Edwards' second go-around at the collegiate level, but his first as a head coach.
ASU fired head coach Todd Graham last weekend after leading the Sun Devils to a 46-31 record in six seasons, including a 7-5 record this year.
Edwards' hiring was complete pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents, ASU said in a press release.
This season, Arizona State posted a 7-5 record and face N.C. State in the Sun Bowl on December 29.
Edwards said he's not concerned the gap between his coaching jobs will be problematic.
"It's a collaborative approach to managing the ASU football program that includes sport and administrative divisions, which will operate as distinct, but collective units focused on elevating all aspects of Sun Devil Football", the release said.
