Sri Lanka are probably sick of the sight of Virat Kohli, so confirmation the India captain will be rested for the upcoming Twenty20 matches will come as welcome news for the tourists.

"It is unfortunate that Kuldeep Yadav had to miss out as we will be playing only three Test matches in South Africa".

Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma - were also certainties just like spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian Test squad for the South Africa tour, set to start on the 5th of January next year. He said that Bumrah's domestic performances have been taken into account and considering he played a crucial role in Gujarat's triumphant Ranji Trophy campaign, he deserved the opportunity.

"With regards to Bumrah, if you see his performance in the last 18 months, it has been phenomenal, sensational in ODIs and T20".

"It's a unanimous choice, there were no doubts in picking Bumrah because he definitely adds variety to our pace attack". He explained that only two spinners were required for the tour and to select Kuldeep ahead of Jadeja and Ashwin would've been a big ask. "Otherwise, he is a top-class bowler", He explained.

Parthiv Patel will also travel to South Africa as a backup wicket-keeper to Wridhhiman Saha.

Parthiv Patel returns to the national squad after a long time where Jasprit Bumrah gets his maiden call for Test cricket.
