LG unveils its first smart speaker with Google Assistant

Of course, it'll fire up with "OK, Google" and control your smart home or set reminders or get you the weather, just like other Assistant-equipped speakers.

LG is touting the ThinQ Speaker as its first premium smart AI audio product.

Premium Sounding Speaker with Google AssistantLG will be using the stage at CES 2018 to announce its first premium smart AI audio product, the LG ThinQ Speaker, which not only produces high-quality sound but comes with Google Assistant built in.

"Sound technology has come a long way since LG introduced the first radio to the Korean market nearly 60 years ago", stated Tim Alessi, head of product marketing at LG Electronics USA. But the LG fans should keep their hope in enjoying the newness affordably as the company will aim to make things competitive given the present increasing saturation of the markets.

"Sound technology has come a long way since LG introduced the first radio to Korean consumers nearly 60 years ago", Seo Young-jae, head LG Home Entertainment's convergence audio and video business division, said in a statement. It can also respond to "OK, Google" voice commands to being playing audio from supported services. It supports 5.1 audio with Dolby Atmos, which supposedly counters that fact that the sound is only coming from the bar rather than distributed speakers (there is a separate sub, though).

New for 2018 is Meridian Audio's advanced high performance audio technology to deliver more natural and warm sound.

LG has promised that quality audio was not forgotten in the design of the ThinQ. LG ThinQ Speaker's High Resolution Audio is compatible with high quality lossless files, giving it the ability to faithfully recreate sounds that were originally recorded in the studio. The highly underrated LG Gram, super high-def TVs galore and even smart appliances adorned what was one of the most visually enticing booths at CES 2017. That information hasn't been shared as of this time.
