Mass. gasoline prices fall 3 cents

The year is ending with gas prices up 10.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

The price of gas has risen in both states since a year ago. CT lawmakers and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy are taking heat from motorists for considering a plan that raises the state's gasoline tax by three cents when prices at the pumps are creeping toward $5 a gallon.

Average retail gasoline prices in Minnesota have not moved in the past week, averaging $2.33 per gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,856 gas outlets in Minnesota.

However, the increases should prove only temporary, predicted Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA-The Auto Club Group. That's down about 7 cents over the month, but up 15 cents from a year ago.

Colorado Springs- $2.33, down 2.2 cents per gallon from last week.

AAA says that the increase in demand is likely the cause because more drivers are on the road as they travel home from the holidays.

Van Wert County had the lowest average county price in the region at $2.309, passing Hardin County at $2.312. Best price in Forney was $2.09 and a low of $2.16 in Kaufman. The lowest was $2.13 on July 17.

Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said following the heavy travel period over Christmas, gas prices could moderate in the days ahead.

Georgia: the highest average price was $2.76 on September 12.
