Ohio State's losses came against Oklahoma and unranked Iowa. The Buckeyes went on to win the national championship that year. Teams like Penn State, TCU, USC, Wisconsin, Auburn and Miami were all around the top 10 in November and had a case to be a top-four team at some point.

The Crimson Tide have only one loss, and that was to a tough Auburn team.

Ohio State missed out on the College Football Playoff on Sunday, with Alabama claiming the No. 4 spot instead of the Buckeyes.

Alabama opened as a one-point favorite against Clemson in Las Vegas despite making the playoff as the No. 4 overall seed.

For the third consecutive year, Clemson has made the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett threw touchdown passes and two interceptions in the win against the Badgers.

Sugar Bowl COO Jeff Hundley called the matchup a "home run" for the bowl game which serves as the Championship game qualifier for the second time since the College Football Playoff's inception in 2014.

The Bulldogs will play against the Sooners on Jan.1.

Perhaps the most newsworthy item is that the Big Ten and Pac-12 were shutout of the College Football Playoff.

The Tigers will play against the Crimson Tide on January 1, this is the third year in a row the teams will have a game against each other.

Despite not playing in the SEC Championship and a relative lack of perceived quality wins, Alabama beat Florida State when the Seminoles were ranked No. 3 in the AP Top 25 Poll, in addition to wins over LSU and Mississippi State. And the selection committee chose to put in the Crimson Tide, leaving OSU out.
