Penn State is Arizona bound for the Fiesta Bowl.

In the College Football Playoff rankings released a little later, the Huskies earned a New Year's Six bowl matchup against No. 9 Penn State (10-2) in the Fiesta Bowl at 1 p.m. December 30 in Glendale, AZ.

It will be Washington's first appearance in the Fiesta Bowl, but coach Chris Peterson led Boise State to an upset victory against Oklahoma after the 2006 season.

"I'm thrilled for our football student-athletes, coaches and staff who have worked tirelessly for this opportunity and have earned back-to-back berths in a New Year's Six bowl", stated Sandy Barbour, Penn State Director of Athletics.

Washington and Penn State will be meeting for just the third time, and the first since the Lions beat the Huskies 13-10 in the 1983 Aloha Bowl.

Penn State surprisingly received an invitation Sunday to play Washington in the Fiesta Bowl Dec. 30 in Glendale, Ariz.

Fiesta Bowl tickets can be purchased here. The Nittany Lions lost to USC, 52-49, in the Rose Bowl after last season. Washington, which had only one loss, edged Penn State, which had two. Penn State was No. 9 in the final College Football Playoff rankings and Washington was No. 11.
