BJP leader Amit Shah's poll rallies scheduled on Tuesday in Rajula town of Amreli and Mahuva and Shihor of Bhavnagar district were cancelled, as were Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's rallies in Morbi, Dhrangadhra and Surendranagar. Along with Gujarat, Maharashtra, too, is on high alert.
Now, Mumbai rains will continue over the city with moderate rainfall activity continuing for today.
Rains will reduce by tomorrow, as the cyclone will weaken and move towards South Gujarat, however, some rains are also expected on December 6 as well.
Most part of the city remained dark and experienced nearly continuous rain with bouts of heavy showers since Monday evening because of which traffic has slowed down in several parts.
He also said that he was monitoring the situation arising in various parts of the country due to the cyclone. "Our Karyakartas should devote themselves to providing all possible assistance and stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow citizens", Modi tweeted.
Several districts in Gujarat received light rain since Tuesday morning, even as nearly the entire State saw overcast skies.
It has warned that when the cyclone hits the Gujarat coast, "wind speed would remain between 50 and 60 kmph and may reach up to 70 kmph in south Gujarat".
Rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next three days.
"Fishermen are advised to return back to the coast and are advised not to go out in the sea during next 48 hours", reads the statement.
