The Special Counsel's probe has found illegal behavior stretching into the senior most levels of the White House.
The significance of today's plea deal by former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, in which he pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with the Special Counsel, can not be overstated.
How will he co-operate with the investigation?
Figures in the online Trump loyalist movement that describes itself as "New Right" rushed to downplay the news earlier this morning that Flynn would plead guilty for lying to the FBI and claimed the revelation only served to discredit the investigation into whether the Trump campaign sought assistance from the Russian government.
Flynn has admitted that a senior member of the Trump transition team directed him to make contact with Russian officials in December 2016.
Flynn is ready to spill the beans on Trump, according to Ross. In the first statement Flynn made on December 29, 2016, Flynn denied making a request to a Russian ambassador to "refrain from escalating the situation" after the USA imposed sanctions on Russia and Flynn denied recalling that the Russian ambassador then stated they will "moderate" their response due the the request. But the most senior levels of the Trump transition team were aware, from the first, what really happened.
Previous reports have purported that Flynn spoke with then-Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak shortly after President Barack Obama imposed sanctions on Russia.
What were the conversations with the Russians about?
Flynn is accused of falsely telling the Federal Bureau of Investigation that he did not ask Kislyak to "refrain from escalating the situation in response to [the] sanctions".
Flynn is now accused of "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the feds.
Flynn was forced to resign in February after White House officials said he had misled them about whether he had discussed sanctions with Kislyak. Administration officials said Flynn had not discussed sanctions that had been imposed on Russian Federation in part over election meddling. That appears to refer to the body's vote a day later to condemn Israeli settlements in the West Bank. The rest of the 15-nation council, including Russian Federation, voted unanimously against Israel. Trump personally called Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi to press the case against the condemnation, and Egypt surprisingly postponed the scheduled showdown on December 22 - the same day Flynn met Kislyak.
"As to the United Nations, things will be different after January 20th", Trump said, referencing his upcoming inauguration.
Yates said she had had "two in-person meetings and one phone call" with the White House counsel, Don McGahn, in January about Flynn.
The "false statements involved mirror the false statements to White House officials which resulted in his resignation in February of this year", he said. There's also the intriguing matter of Trump's intense interest in the Flynn case.
Michael Flynn is ready to spill the beans on Trump, according to Ross.
Back in March, when Flynn was in negotiations with Congress to provide testimony, his lawyer hinted that he had much to say.
