The project is based on the Marvel character Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident and becomes Captain Marvel as a result of being with the super powers of strength, energy project and flight. Rising out of relative obscurity to star in Lee's Netflix series, she now joins an elite group of movie actors to land the goldmine that is the Marvel Universe.
Marvel is owned by Disney, parent company of ABC News. Jude Law will also star in the film, which is set in the 1990s and features Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. Calling herself Ms. Marvel, she established herself as one of Marvel's most powerful and prominent heroes as a sole heroine and as a member of the Avengers.
Thus, Monica Rambeau is particularly well situated to be introduced as a supporting character in Captain Marvel's new movie.
We're already getting Carol Danvers' origin in this movie, so it wouldn't be a stretch for someone else to get powers by the film's end, right?
Though their paths rarely cross in the comics, we know that the MCU is built from concepts taken from Marvel rather than direct storylines. There is no word on what her role will be, but there has been some speculation about who it could be.
DeWanda Wise has been tapped into star in Disney-Marvel's "Captain Marvel".
A previously released description for Captain Marvel offered: The superhero film will be set in the 90s, and the Skrulls, alien shape-shifters, will be the primary antagonists.
There is no question this will be Wise's biggest role to date.
