Carrie Underwood tripped and fell on the stairs outside her Nashville home. "I'll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told [Underwood's husband] Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in".
The 34-year-old Underwood previously said that her wrist had broken in the incident after falling on the steps. She told her fans that she "might look a bit different" following the accident.
Underwood explains the process in a blog post on her members-only section of her fan club website.
In a story that she's "finally ready to talk about", Underwood admits that it was more than her wrist that was injured that day.
Although she's still very much recovering, Underwood is looking at the new year with optimism, "I am determined to make 2018 awesome and I want to share things with you along the way", she quipped. Underwood added that she is "not quite looking the same" but slowly healing from her injuries.
"It's insane how a freak random accident can change your life", Underwood adds.
"I honestly don't know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful", she said. It is sad that she feels she has to hide her face from the public.
She is however grateful that the injuries were not much worse.
Despite a recent facial injury, Carrie Underwood appeared to be in great spirits when she ran into Below Deck alum Adrienne Gang at the gym in mid-December.
Underwood posted a photo of herself to Instagram last week with her face nearly entirely covered by a scarf. "And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way". The singer, who is recovering from the fall, revealed that she had to undergo stitches after gaining severe cuts to her face. She promised fans on her webpage that she would keep them updated on her news, and wishes everyone a happy new year.
