The siblings were delivered naturally but on either side of midnight as Joaquin arrived on 11:58 pm on December 31, 2017 followed by his twin sister Aitana at 12: 16 am on January 01, 2018. Eighteen minutes later, at 12:16 a.m. Monday, his little sister Aitana entered the world.

In, Fresno, the first baby of the new year was actually born a week late.

A California mother celebrated the new year by welcoming twins: one in 2017, one in 2018. However, at 7 p.m. EST on New Year's Eve, their mother Maria went into premature labor.

Maria Esperanza Flores Rios was originally due on January 27, then had a C-section scheduled for January 10. The babies were said to have born healthy and hassle-free, with only the rarity of their birth timing.

The twins have been gifted over $3,000 of baby supplies by Delano Regional Medical Centre.

Maria Flores' twins were born less than 20 minutes apart.

The twins were also born three weeks early.

"It was definitely a surprise!"

While an incident like this is extremely uncommon, a year ago, four such twin births were recorded in the United States - in Georgia, Utah, Arizona and San Diego in California.
