The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has got Haj House in Lucknow painted in saffron colour attracting criticism from Muslim groups and opposition parties.

The move prompted the opposition Samajwadi Party to accuse the BJP government of indulging in "blatant saffronisation".

"Whitewash and maintenance work were being done at the Haj House located at the Vidhan Sabha road in Lucknow by a contractor, as per the direction of the Haj Samiti". The BJP-led state government blamed the contractor for the incident and said that strict action will be taken against him.

He also ordered action be initiated against the erring contractor. However, uniformity with other government buildings in vicinity was imperative, Singh had claimed.

After the Uttar Pradesh (UP) secretariat that houses offices of state Chief Minister and other top bureaucrats of the state was colored saffron in October previous year.

In September past year, the state government painted its secretariat annexe building (Shastri Bhawan) in shades of saffron and then launched a rural bus service with saffron coloured buses.

"The BJP is a party known for changing colours".

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who dons saffron and seems to be really fond of the colour became the CM of the state has literally taken up the task of painting the country saffron.

"What is this? The BJP will paint it saffron, the SP will choose green and the BSP blue..." Walls were repainted with light saffron colour on Saturday to take off the bright saffron colour. "Saffron is a colour which symbolises "ujala" (brightness) and "urja" (energy)".

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mohsin Raza told the media "I fail to understand the problem of those having issues with the new colour".

"Saffron is a colour, which is synonymous with positivity".
